A 2025 Deep-Dive Guide to Sanya’s Most Romantic Shoreline
1 | Why Tianya Haijiao Is Suddenly on Every Bucket-List
Brand-new 5A rating. China’s Ministry of Culture & Tourism upgraded the park to 5A status in January 2024, its highest quality grade for attractions.
Free admission since 2023 (and still free in 2025). The local government scrapped the gate fee on 1 June 2023, turning the former “ticket economy” into an experience-driven coastal park.
Experiential revamp. More than 20 new add-ons—an aquatic-sports club, literature-themed Tianya Books lounge, selfie piers, and nightly light projections—have modernised the once-quiet lookout.
2 | Legend, Name & Poetic Allure
“Tian-ya hai-jiao” literally means “the ends of the earth and the sea.” Ancient mandarins in exile wrote of this windswept cape as the farthest corner of the empire; later love poems framed it as the place where two hearts vow to stay together even to the world’s last shore. Iconic boulders—Tianya (Heaven’s Edge), Haijiao (Sea’s Edge), the Southern Heaven Pillar, and the paired Sun-and-Moon Rocks—carry calligraphic carvings immortalising those tales.
